Oakville Ranch Cabernet Franc 2016

Often overshadowed by its offspring, Cabernet Franc is beguiling. It was evident early on that this dazzling young wine, from one specific block at Oakville Ranch, was worthy of a separate bottling. Always an integral part of our Cabernet Sauvignon blend, selected barrels were nurtured and set aside for this solo release. Finicky Cabernet Franc favours and excels in soil composed of rock and moderate clay which is exactly what this site offers. Planted on a gentle contour aiming south, fruit is protected from late afternoon sun. Picked the last week in September, the wine was aged for nineteen months in larger format cooperage. Adorned with floral notes, the tension between savoury and delicacy, is what makes this variety unique and compelling.
